Moyne Templetuohy 3-08

Éire Óg Anacarty       3-03

A superb team effort saw Moyne Templetuohy crowned U14C County Football Champions today against a good Éire Óg Anacarty side in Holycross.

Moyne Templetuohy were first out of the blocks with Captain Dylan McLoughlin raising a green flag inside two minutes setting a leading example for his teammates. Jamie Kiely was next to follow only a minute later raising another green flag to leave the score board reading Moyne Templetuohy 2-00 Éire Óg Anacarty 0-00. The next few minutes of the game saw Éire Óg finding their feet and leading some excellent attacks only to have the influential James Maher and Ciarán Llyod quash their efforts.  The loss of Cormac Deegan to a wrist injury early in the first half didn’t deter their spirit as Moyne Templetuohy added on some superb points from Jamie Kiely (0-01), Patrick Collier (0-01) and Gavin Ryan (0-02). Moyne Templetuohy were now well ahead but Éire Óg never gave up and their efforts were rewarded with a goal midway through the first half by Derek Connors. The last few minutes of the half were tough with both teams attacking at pace but both defences held out until the 27th minute when Éanna Guilfoyle whisked through the Éire Óg defence to score Moyne Templetuohys 3rd goal of the day. The half time whistle soon followed with the score reading Moyne Templetuohy 3-05 Éire Óg 1-01.

The second half begun at a frantic pace this time with Éire Óg Anacarty taking the initiative and scoring 1-01 inside the first 10minutes to reduce the score to six points. It was not until the 13th minute and an Éanna Guilfoyle free to get Moyne Templetuohy on the scoreboard. The second half didn’t provide the crowd with many scores but the effort of both sets of players was evident from the first whistle. A hard working second half ensued with Ciaran Llyod, Éanna Guilfoyle, Dylan McLoughlin leading the charge and they searched for scores. As full time approached Moyne Templetuohy were 3-08 to 2-02 ahead but a late penalty to Éire Óg Anacarty saw Derek Connors place the ball neatly in the back of the net. The full time whistle soon followed and Moyne Templetuohy became the County U14C Football Champions for 2016.

A fantastic performance was had by all with James Maher, Ciaran Llyod and Éanna Guilfoyle really stepping up to the mark during the course of the game. County Bord Na nÓg Chairman Tom Dawson presented the cup to a jubilant Moyne Templetuohy Captain Dylan McLoughlin. Well done to all the players and management on a fantastic day as the future looks bright for all these players.
