Saturday night last saw our Annual Presentation Night as well as our Annual Table Quiz take place in Everard’s pub Templetuohy. With 20 tables entered on the night, usual Quizmaster Jim O’Meara entertained the crowd with a mixture of questions that meant all teams were in the running come round 8. Eventual winners on a score of 60/64 was Tom Guilfoyle, Odhran Llyod, Cormac Llyod and. Our sincere thanks to Jim O’Meara for his wonderful questions.
Directly after our Quiz, our Annual Presentation Night took place with pride of place going to our Minor Hurlers who were presentated with their Mid Medals. Vice Chairman of the County Board and Clubman Joe Kennedy presented all with their hurling medals. Football medals will be given out at a later date in the Thurles Gaels GAA Club. Following the players, Manager Sean Everard, Selectors Morgan Lanigan, John Sweeney, Gearoid O’Connor (accepting on behalf of his father Pat) and Pat Flanagan were then presented with a trophy as a mark of thanks for their hard work done throughout 2017. A special presentation was then made to Philomena McNamara for her work as First Aider throughout 2017.
Three more awards was all that was left to present, Young and Adult Player of the year as well as Club Person of the Year. Up first was our Young Player of the Year Award. This year the award went to a chap that always gave it his all for his club both on and off the field. He starred on the Thurles CBS Harty Cup Panel as well the Tipperary Minor and U21 Hurling Panels. Young Player of the Year for 2017 was Conor Bowe.
Next up was Adult Player of the Year. This chap has excelled in his position over the years. He has a coveted All Ireland Medal for his heroics between the sticks. He has given his all for his club both on and off the field again. He is currently part of Michael Ryan’s Senior Set Up. Adult player of the Year for 2017 was Paul Maher, Comhghairdeachas Paul!
And finally our last award of the night was Club Person of the Year. This year the award went to two people of the same family. When asked to describe them people will always use the words hard-working. They have served at all level in the club and are still active officers this year. Club Persons of the Year for 2017 was Teresa and Dominic Everard.
My sincere thanks to all those who assisted in any way in successfully running another quiz and presentation night. My thanks must go to Mari and Hugh Coghlan, Teresa Everard, Aileen Geehan, Carmel Butler, Willie Fogarty and Tom Hassett. Thanks also to Sean Everard for his hospitality. And finally to Billy Loughnane for all the wonderful images you see here!
