(Missing from photo – Joe Lawlor)   Our U14s represented Tipperary and Moyne Templetuohy in the All-Ireland of Feile Na Gael over the weekend of June 20 – 22nd. This was the first year a team from the B grade would go forward and our players did not disappoint.   The U14s qualified by beating a very impressive Borrisoleigh in the County semi-final and then went on to beat Emily Traceys in Annacarthy on May 3rd. From then on the preparations began in earnest for the Feile.   We arrived in Belfast, to our host club, Bredagh GAA club on Friday. Our first game against the host club began at 3pm. We got off to a shaky start but soon got into the game with the man of the match Gearoid O’Connor scoring 1:05. The match finished with the home side winning 2:06 to our 1:05. The host club then provided us with some fantastic finger food which was must welcome after the long journey from Tipperary. 14 of our players then met with their host families. Next up was the parade which was held in Armagh Athletics Grounds. It was a wonderful event with 90 teams parading in front of a huge crowd of supporters. The next day Saturday we had 2 more group games, against O’Donovan Rossa & Watergrasshill, Cork. The U14s got off to a great start against O’Donovan Rossa with again Gearoid O’Connor excelling scoring all of the scores, with Moyne Templetuohy winning 1:05 – 0-04. The last match in the group was against Watergrasshill, with Gearoid O’Connor again excelling scoring 5 of the 6points Moyne Templetuohy scored, with the 6th point coming from Conor Bowe. This match was won with a point to spare but enough for us to finish in the top 2 of the group and going forward to the Cup quarter final. This was held in Slaughtneil in Co. Derry, about an hour’s drive from Belfast.  After arriving in Slaughtneil our team got ready to face Kevin Lynch’s club of Dungiven. However soon after the whistle sounded it was clear they were a very formidable club with some very strong players. At this stage we had lost Conor Bowe to injury with Jack Taylor & Gearoid O’Connor beginning to suffer as well. Our only score of the game was a point by Martin Ryan. The score at the end of the match, 4-08 to 1point didn’t show the determination & courage of our U14s. The fact that the team that beat us in the quarter finals went on to win the Feile shows how strong this team was. Our host club then provided a fantastic BBQ to all players, mentors & families which was a great night, finishing off with the kids enjoying a disco. Thanks to the host families who took great care of the players, to Bredagh GAA club who were so welcoming & helpful throughout our stay. As a thank you to the club we presented them with a plaque and a framed signed jersey by all u14 players. Special thanks to all our sponsors who helped make this a successful event – Lisheen Mines, Maher Quaries, Tipperary Coiste na nOg, Mid Coiste na nOg, Cooleeney Cheese, Tom Guilfoyle, Shreelawn Oil, Templetuohy Foods, Templetuohy Farm Machinery, Connie Costigan, Duffe’s pub Templetuohy, Martin Campion Templetuohy, Templetuohy Coursing Club, Sean Everard Templetuohy, Helen Quinlan – Moyne and Centerary Co-op.
