A strong second half display saw Upperchurch Drombane crowned U16B Shield Champions 2017, however Moyne Templetuohy can be proud of a gallant effort.

Upperchurch began the stronger of the two racing into a four point to two lead after ten minutes, Eanna Guilfoyle and Ciarán Llyod keeping Moyne Templetuohy within striking distance. However a Pat Ryan goal on 11minutes put some breathing space between the teams. Moyne Templetuohy refused to give up as Dean Lawlor answered immediately with a score of his own. Jamie Kiely then pulled of a terrific save 5 minutes later to keep Moyne Templetuohy in touch, 1-08 to 0-03 with 15mins to go. The last few minutes of the half saw Moyne Templetuohy battled back as Ciarán Llyod scored not one but two goals in quick concession and this added to a Dean Lawlor point saw Moyne Templetuohy go in only two down at the break, 2-05 to 1-10.

Moyne Templetuohy came out all guns blazing and found themselves after 32mins with Eanna Guilfoyle finding the net, but unfortunately this was as close as theu weould come. Upperchurch appeared to kick up a gear and find the scoring easier with Luke Shanahan, Pat Ryan and young Purcell all finding their range. Moyne Templetuohy battled hard though with Shane Lowe, Kieran Larkin and Ciaran Llyod all hurling well. Jamie Kiely came to the rescue once again and pulled off a super save. Dean Lawlor scored Moyne Templetuohy’s last point of the game and when referee Kevin Jordan blew the final whistle, the scoreboard read Moyne Templetuohy 3-06 Upperchurch Drombane 1-23.
