Our u11’s took part in their first competitive fixture today in the Michael Hogan Festival of Football. We entered two teams which meant we had to split the camp into the Green and Gold teams.
The Green team (pictured in the bottom of the picture above) headed to Drombane where they played some great football, won their 2 round games against Clerihan and Ballingary. They then got to the semi-final where they lost by the narrowest of margins to Galtee Rovers.
The Gold team had a longer drive to Newport but it was worth it all when they won all four of their round matches against Drom-Inch, Newport, Thurles Gaels and Silvermines. They beat Cappawhite in the semi-final but unfortunately met a steonger Newport team in the final where they lost their only match of the day. Credit to this team of players, who due to injuries etc, had no subs today so each of the 9 players played a total of 96 minutes football on what was a very warm day.
Another favourable point to note for both teams was the big contribution the girls made to all their victories. We were one of only two teams that had their girls playing in prominent roles with them, this is a testament to the high standard of play that they are achieving through the ladies football and juvenile clubs in this parish.
Well done to all the players involved who gave it their all today. Sincerest thanks to the host clubs, the parents who gave of their time (and petrol!) to get the children there and the mentors for both teams: Tom Guilfoyle, Fintan Campion, Tom Hassett, Marianne Jones, Bridget Cleary, Pearse Everard and Seamus Concagh.
